Legislative Building of Bangalore
Bangalore is often considered to be the Silicon Valley of India. This city is extremely diverse and a major economic hub of the country. The Silicon Valley association is due to its major position as India’s preeminent IT employer. It is also the fastest growing metropolis in the country. Bangalore has many landmarks and cultural attractions that makes it popular to tourists staying in one of the five star hotels in Bangalore . The landmark building Vidhana Soudha was constructed in the style of what has been considered to be Neo Dravidian. It houses the state legislature of Karnataka, and is quite an imposing and awe-inspiring building. It servers as a major icon for the city and a strong attraction for tourists who are eager to explore the many cultural icons of Bangalore.
The Vidhana Soudha was built in the 1050s and its conception is typically accredited to Shri Kengal Hanumanthaiah who was the chief minister of Mysore from 1951 to 1956. The idea for the design of the building was inspired by his trips to Europe, The United States and Russia, and reflects these diverse elements in its appearance. The building has also been referred to as the Taj Mahal of south India. The entire building encompasses an area of 700 by 350 feet, and constitutes the largest legislative building in India. Among its many features is the central dome, which is indicative of the standard national emblem of India.
There are four floors to the building that exist above ground while one exits underground. It is beneath the building where the Karnataka State Archives are located. The impressive eastern porch has 12 granite columns that are 40 feet tall. Also present at the main entrance is an emblem engraving of the phrase Government’s Work is God’s Work. The building creates a spectacular display when it is illuminated on Sundays and also on national holidays. It is interesting to note that much of the work in the construction of the building was completed by prison inmates who were set free once the structure was complete.
