Sir Elton John is an English singer, musician and composer. He has an amazing career that has spanned four decades and includes the sale of over 200 million records. He also has show currently playing on Broadway. John wrote the music for Tony Award winning Billy Elliot, the Musical. This and other productions are a primary reason many tourists visit the city and stay in one of the best New York City hotel while they’re there.

John was born in March 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex England. He fell in love with music and performance at an early age and demonstrated a unique gift for the art. However, when he expressed a desire to pursue this professional, his father disapproved and tried to guide him toward a more stable career such as banking. The world can only be grateful that John’s passion guided him forward and he chose the piano instead of the pocket book. Ironically, he has made more money in the music business than he could have in five lifetimes as a banker.

John as an amazing list of hit songs to his credit and much of his music composes a background theme for people who have listened to him throughout his life. He is a unique performer in that people of all ages, sexual orientations and ethnic backgrounds attend his shows and they seem to be celebration events as much as they are concerts. Some of his biggest hit songs include Daniel, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Rocket Man, Daniel, Philadelphia Freedom, I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues, and Candle in the Wind. This is a short list, which seemingly could go on indefinitely. And interesting aspect of Candle in the Wind is that it was originally written about Marilyn Monroe and John revised the song and performed it in memory of Princess Diana. He was a good friend of the Princess’s and played this song at her funeral.
