Bangkok Parks
Bangkok is full of amazing architecture, which represents its rich cultural heritage. There are plenty of temples and other major landmarks to keep tourists occupied. One of the often-overlooked aspects of this giant city is its many parks. They provide the ideal setting to relax and reflect upon all of the experiences one has had while visiting. They are also ideal for some of the festival attractions and in-park performances, or simply for an afternoon picnic. Two of the more popular parks in the city are the Lumphini Park and the Chatuchak Park, and tourists staying in one of the Bangkok business hotels are encouraged to explore them.
The Lumphini Park, also known Lumpinee was named for Lumbini, which is known as the birthplace of Buddha in Nepal. It was created in the 1920s and at the time, stood at the outskirts of the city. It is now commonly referred to as the Central Park of Bangkok. There is a statue of King Rama VI at the southwest entrance to commemorate his development of the park. It is one of the rare open spaces to be found in the city and includes an artificial lake, which contributes to its peaceful atmosphere. There is a path around the lake, which is common for bicyclers to make good use of, and also it is possible to take boat tour or rent a boat for a few hours. It is one of the few remaining places in the capital city where mounted police still patrol the area. Also, it is home to Bangkok’s first public library and dance hall.
Chatuchak Park takes its name from the community in which it exists, the Chatuchak district in Bangkok. It also refers to the metro station that lies under it. It is one of the largest and also most popular parks in Bangkok, as over 200,000 people visit it per day. This park also features an artificial lake that has a beautiful fountain with streams rising high into the air. It is home to a train museum, which is popular with tourists.
